Reflection/Description

To be honest this project did not start as a well thought out concept. I didn't quite understand the project brief as our tutor read it to us and reading the brief on Moodle now I probably would have gone a different direction. However if I were to describe the function of the artwork my partners and I made it would be this: Our project involved translating a linear description of physical space into a malleable form, then taking it a step further and translating that form into 2-dimensional abstract images. Essentially a deconstruction of the space we were in... It was a very material-driven, spontaneous work that involved a lot of trying different approaches.

My partners were Imogen and Lilli for this project. I usually prefer not the work in groups. I feel that if you don’t have a shared vision to start with or another good reason to work with others it can result in an unfocused result and it seems like a bit of a cop out. And I think it did start as that in my case, as I couldn't come up with any other ideas for the project. In the end, although the project didn't really resonate with me, I think it was a nice exercise in collaboration. All of our ideas were heard and discussed and we equally shared the creative and physical burden. The process was fun and I do really like a few of the images we got out of it. Rather than a completed project I think this felt more like research and idea development for a more focused project (although not one I plan to take on).
